The White Stick charity event was held in April under the patronage of H.R.H. Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al ýMaktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai.

Tamkeen acknowledged the White Stick task force in a special ceremony last week, and awarded certificates of appreciation for its commitment to empower visual impaired individuals.

"The members of Mohammed Bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development have lead by example with their outstanding level of dedication in supporting people with special needs. While expressing our gratitude to them, we also hope to see more organisations developing similar levels of social responsibility towards charitable causes in the UAE," said Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, director of Tamkeen.

Acknowledging Tamkeen's gesture of appreciation, Azza Al Sharhan, spokesperson for the White Stick team, reiterated the local community's responsibility towards visual impaired persons.

"The White Stick charity dinner and auction is a reflection of Mohamed Bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development's core philosophy of supporting physically challenged people who have the right to be a part of our society's social sector," Al Sharhan added.

"The event was met with an overwhelming response and we are grateful to everyone who supported us in this worthwhile cause."

Tamkeen, which was established in 2004, empowers vision impaired people with vocational skills to enter the modern workplace and become economically independent. The centre recently graduated its first batch of 16 IT students.
