  • PRESS RELEASE

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in its sustained campaign to preserve Dubai's impeccable image as a perfect all-year-round tourist and shopping destination, has decided to initiate stringent action against vendors selling pirated products.

The DTCM will work in tandem with the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED), Ministry of Labour, Dubai Police and the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) to combat the sale of fake brands and deport the illegal vendors, after they are arrested.

A meeting was held at the DTCM Head Office today (June 12) to chalk out a plan to counter the illegal vending of contraband products The meeting was presided over by Mr. Mohammed Khalifa, DTCM Deputy Manager, Inspection and Permissions Section.

Representatives from the DNRD, DED, Dubai Police and the Ministry of Labour attended the meeting and decided to constitute a taskforce to combat the menace of the sale of counterfeit products in Dubai.

It was decided that all the government departments concerned would remain involved in stamping out the menace of illegal vending. Once the criminals are arrested, a detailed and unified form would be required to be filled up and distributed among the different departments to ensure that the criminals are not allowed to re-enter the country once they are deported.

Officials from the all the concerned government departments would be required to sign on the form, as a fool-proof measure to root out the vendors who are responsible for affecting legal businesses.

The DTCM, which has identified the Gold Souq in Deira as one of the most common places of illegal vending in Dubai has decided to set up a Visitors Information Bureau (VIB) there to attract visitors and showcase Dubai's world-class tourism infrastructure and facilities.
