Iraq Security, Technology & Communications Summit (ISTC) to focus on security technology in Iraq

Following the announcement of the final positions being filled within the cabinet of the New Unity Government of Iraq, anticipation is growing in the build-up to the forthcoming Iraq Security, Technology & Communications Summit (ISTC), which will take place in Sharjah, UAE on 12-13 September 2006.

With the event having the support of all parties, the purpose behind the summit is to provide practical, commercial and technical solutions to aid Iraq's security, defence, information and communication technology sectors. It will be the first opportunity for the new ministers to hear solutions delivered from the international business community, with a format of face-to-face meetings between the community and the ministries taking place at the summit.

The summit will feature addresses from the Iraqi Ministries of Defence, Interior, Communications, Science & Technology and National Security, with official delegations attending from the various ministries.. Presentations will also come from the ICT Alliance - a new initiative from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) - the Project & Contracting Office (PCO), Iraq's Private Security Company Association, the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the US Army Corps of Engineers.

The ISTC Summit will focus heavily on Iraq's various security and defence requirements, including the Iraqi police service, defence and security equipment procurement, civil defence, border enforcement, fire service and facilities protection and the role of private security companies. In addition, solutions from the telecoms and technology sectors being discussed.

A number of the pre-eminent operators in the defence, security, technology and telecoms market have already confirmed their participation at the summit, including the likes of GE, Aegis, ArmorGroup, BAE Systems, Boeing, Control Risks, EADS, Washington Group, KBR, Kroll, Land Rover, AMEC, Lucent Technologies, Nokia, MTC Atheer, Nortel, General Motors, Acer, Northrop Grumman, MCI, Orascom Telecom, PriceWaterHouse Coopers, Raytheon and Sun Microsystems, to name but a few.
