Prologix Dubai chooses D-Link for wireless installation at Kabul City Centre Hotel

The Background:
It has become a basic necessity for today's hotels to have a reliable high-speed Internet access solution not only for the business crowd but also for leisure travelers. While hotels provide valuable services to meet the needs of demanding customers, their ability to implement customized technological solutions often depends upon local market conditions. In addition, the ability to provide widespread access to business services can be a costly and time-consuming exercise without a reliable high-speed Internet access.

The Challenge:
City Centre Hotel Kabul is one of Afghanistan's most popular hotels. It offers its guests the perfect combination of high- quality services and a comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. Due to the high demand from its corporate
accounts, City Centre Hotel Kabul was looking to provide high-speed Internet access as an amenity. The hotel was on the verge of potentially losing accounts; Internet services were not ready for its business guests who were heavily accustomed to high-speed connectivity while on the road. City Centre Hotel had Internet Satellite High Speed connection, but they needed to set up a network for their guests. After the Hotel Management discussed the circumstances, they called Prologix Dubai, a premier hotel hospitality network provider, to ask them for an appropriate suggestion in terms of network solutions.

The Solution:
Collaborating for many years with D-Link, Prologix Dubai advised CCH Kabul to use the wireless networking solutions of the global leader in connectivity for small, medium and large enterprise business networking. Being well aware that D-Link products will meet the needs of the multi-story hotel reliably and within budget, they started the project.

Initially it was necessary to split the Internet connection into a public and a private network, using the D-Link DSA-3100 Air spot. The private network was then connected through wires allowing access only to City Centre Hotel employees, while the public network was connected to the D-Link DES-1526 in order to serve with free Internet access to the hotel guests.

Installers deployed two D-Link DWL-3200 access points in the middle of each wing: one on the first floor and one in the middle of third floor.

D-Link DSA-3100
The DSA-3100 Public/Private Hot Spot Gateway is a secure Ethernet-based gateway designed to create two distinct networks through its integrated public and private ports. By adding a wireless access point to the public port on the DSA-3100, customers and patrons can connect to a free or fee-based broadband Internet connection. Through the private port, hot spot operators can be assured their private and confidential information is secured from public access. And depending on the establishment size and network deployment needs, hot spot operators can add switches and access points to expand their networks to provide full wireless coverage.

• D-Link DWL-3200 Enhanced Wireless Access Point
The DWL-3200AP Managed Access Point allows network administrators to deploy a highly manageable and extremely robust wireless network. This access point has two high-gain antennas for optimal wireless coverage.
The DWL-3200AP delivers extremely reliable wireless performance with standard 802.11g wireless throughput rates of up to 54Mbps* and has the added capability of reaching maximum wireless signal rates of up to 108Mbps* powered by D-Link 108G technology. At the same time, the DWL-3200AP remains fully compatible with the IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g standards.
D-Link DWL-3200 provides four operating modes including a point-to-point bridge, and a point-to-multi-point wireless bridge. It can also serve as a wireless client, or can act as a repeater for creating or expanding a wireless network.

• D-Link DES-1526
The DES-1526 is an effective solution for small and medium size businesses deploying wireless
networks, increasing security, and adding multimedia applications. This all-in-one solution economically integrates Gigabit technology that removes server bottlenecks and speeds up access to the network backbone. It also provides Smart management features and Power Over Ethernet to supply power injection into 802.3af compliant devices such as IP phones, wireless access points, and IP cameras.
The DES-1526 provides QoS features that are suitable for today's multimedia applications. Through a Web-based interface, an administrator can set up 802.1Q VLANs to segregate traffic, 802.1P to prioritize mission-critical data such as voice or video packets, and link aggregation to create fat traffic pipelines. The DES-1526 also provides network monitoring tools such as port mirroring, SNMP, and basic port statistics. Best of all, the password-protected configuration interface can be accessed remotely.
