Arab postal executives highlight need for developing markets for postal services

Executives from postal organizations from the Arab world shared experiences at a High-Level Conference of Arab Countries on 'Mechanisms for developing markets for postal services' in Morocco from June 7 to 9, 2006.

A special committee, which was appointed at a Conference held in Cairo in 2005, held its second meeting during the conference under the chairmanship of Morocco and co-chairmanship of UAE. Other members of the committee were Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Mauritania.

Mr. Mana Al Suwaidi, Acting Marketing Director, Emirates Post, gave a presentation on the corporation's organizational structure and its success in the marketing postal services.

The meeting was attended by the Regional Representative of UPU who gave a presentation on direct marketing. An official from French Post also attended the meeting.

There were presentations by Morocco Post on postal marketing, Saudi Arabia on GIS (Geographical Information System) and Tunisia on distance training, in association with UPU. Other postal topics such as parcels and philately were also discussed.
