DAGOC awards the construction of a temporary airport terminal to Siemens
- Qatar: Monday, June 19 - 2006 at 09:23
- PRESS RELEASE
The Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) has awarded the contract to build a temporary airport terminal for the Games to Siemens.
The temporary terminal, built using a solution known as CapacityPlus, at the Doha International Airport, will provide all the functions of a regular terminal including both the arrival and departure areas, the baggage handling system, complete electronic security systems for passengers and luggage, police and customs baggage claims, and the check-in counters. Additionally, a screening system, flight information system, air conditioning system, medical station, all essential sanitary facilities, as well as emergency power, are included in the scope of supply.
The terminal, designed and built by Siemens, will be situated in a secure, temporary structure designed to reflect an Arabian tent scheme, measuring 100 metres by 80 metres. It will house the central check-in and departure counter for those involved in the Games, such as athletes, media, VIPs, delegations and technicians. The terminal is expected to handle an estimated 3,000 passengers every hour.
This service solution provides the additional capacity for exactly as long as it is needed - and the terminal is removed when it is no longer required. This ensures full passenger convenience at any time.
The CapacityPlus system has been previously used with great success at Lisbon Airport in Portugal during the 2004 European Football Championships.
The 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 is poised to be the world's second biggest multi-sporting event after the Summer Olympic Games, following the addition of several sports including rugby, baseball, chess and triathlon, making a total of 39 sports in 423 events. This will be the first Asian Games to be held in the Arab World and will welcome 10,500 athletes and team officials representing 45 countries and regions. The Games will be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, from 01 to 15 December 2006.
