Nokia, Siemens merge businesses

Nokia and Siemens have revealed plans to merge their telecom equipment businesses to create one of the biggest players in the industry, according to Reuters. The 50-50 joint venture, to be called Nokia Siemens Networks, will begin operations by January 2007. The two units had combined sales of $20bn in 2005.
