Three-phase power is the name given to an electrical power system mainly installed in commercial buildings, where energy consumption is much greater than domestic use. In the past, most multi air conditioners were produced for single phase electricity supply. A separate transformer was needed for the installation of an air conditioning system in a commercial building with three-phase power.

The Multi F DX is an upgrade from the Multi F system, which was originally created for domestic buildings, connecting up to four indoor units to one outdoor unit.

By using distributor boxes, each bridging up to four indoor units, the Multi F DX can connect up to nine indoor units to one outdoor unit. The installer can choose the indoor units from LG's wide range of residential air conditioners, including its popular picture-frame style indoor unit, Artcool.

Commenting on this new development from the LGE, the firm's Country Manager in Jordan Mr. T.Y. Lee: said "The New Multi F DX reflects our efforts to provide products that are customised for different building designs and specifications. The aim is to optimise effectiveness and energy-efficiency."

Lee added: "Building on its global leadership in residential air conditioners, LGE plans to aggressively enter the commercial air conditioner segment from 2006. It will double the size of its air conditioning R&D team by 2008, and increase R&D investment to 10 per cent of total sales"

In order to provide more tailored products and services for buildings with different construction conditions, LGE offers diverse designs and capacities for air conditioning systems.

The new Multi F DX will be introduced to global markets with four different capacities: including 9.7 kilowatts (kW) 12.3 kW, 14.1 kW, and 15.2 kW. Long piping up to 145 meters and elevation up to 30 meters allows flexible installation, easily adapting to a building's architecture.

The system includes a DC inverter compressor, which reduces the energy consumption of the air conditioning system using advanced technology. It also provides reliable and quiet operation.

LG has held the top spot in air conditioner manufacturing since 2000 with an average annual growth of 20 per cent. Regional sales of LG air-conditioners grew by 15 per cent last year accounting for US$404 million in sales turnover. The company also recently signed a joint venture with its Saudi Arabian partner, H.G Ibrahim Shakir, to establish the LG-Shaker Air Conditioning Company in Saudi Arabia.

As a part of its long-term customer service strategy, LG currently runs 27 Air Conditioner Academies worldwide, providing information and guidelines on management and trouble-shooting methods for commercial air conditioners.
