Emirates Post hosts UPU-sponsored training workshop on Express Mail Service

Delegates from 19 countries took part in a training workshop on Express Mail Service (EMS) organized by Emirates Post in collaboration with Universal Postal Union (UPU) at the Training & Development Centre, Dubai, from June 17 to 22.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Mohammed bin Shaker, Assistant Director General, Zones, Emirates Post, who echoed Emirates Post's commitment to good training and called for greater collaboration between posts in the field of EMS, as the mail had become an industry at the global level.

The training workshop delivered focused training in Rugby System which facilitates faster EMS through electronic inquiry system, which is cost effective and offers tracking facility. This is the first such workshop focused on upgrading of EMS. The second focus area was Customer Service, the pivot of EMS. The workshop demonstrated through case studies how improved customer service can make a difference in performance.

Mr. Carl Gerald, board member of UPU EMS Cooperative, lauded the services provided by the Training Centre and expressed happiness over the high standards and state of the art facilities.
At the closing programme, Mrs. Wiaam Shihab Ghanem, Manager, Training and Development Centre and Acting Manager, HR, Emirates Post, thanked the delegates and the UPU and extended an invitation to participate in more such workshops.

Mr. John Chong, head of EMS at Hong Kong Post, speaking on behalf of the delegates, expressed his gratitude at the hospitality extended by Emirates Post, and thanked them for social trips.

The participants included EMS officials from China, United Kingdom, Iran, Brazil, Morocco, Sri Lanka and others.

Ava Cecie, Project Manager of EMS at UPU, said the workshop helped raise the standards of EMS by focusing on the latest techniques and tools for faster and more efficient service.

Randa Mohammed, one of the participants, appreciated the contents of the workshop and said such training in important for updating postal officials on new developments in the field of EMS.

This is the third UPU-sponsored workshop held at the Training and Development Centre. This has strengthened its position as an accredited TRAINPOST training centre and the region's leading provider of postal training.
