S.S. Lootah invests Dhs 400 million in eco-friendly fleet initiative

As part of the new fleet management policy adopted by S.S. Lootah Group, a leading private business conglomerate in the United Arab Emirates, Dhs 400 million has been invested in modernizing its fleet of concrete mixers and pumps.

"We aim to achieve operational excellence in key areas stated in our fleet management policy, namely, optimization of resources, use of technology and reducing environmental impac,t" said Mohamed Bin Hedda, General Manager, Fleet and Maintenance, S.S. Lootah Group. "Using new vehicles reduces emissions by up to 65% compared to vehicles that are 10 years old and improves asset utilization by over 50% due to remarkable reduction in maintenance and spare part costs."

The new fleet management initiative announced last month by S.S. Lootah Group includes innovative training programs for drivers and operators, use of GPS navigation system, improving and introducing new maintenance techniques, fleet modernization and plans to use natural gas as a cleaner fuel for light vehicles and vans. Eng. Yahya Lootah, Vice Chairman, S.S. Lootah Group, announced the group's commitment to convert 35% of its fleet to be powered by Natural Gas by the end of 2006 recently during a media workshop on Natural Gas held at the S.S. Lootah headquarters in Dubai.

"We have invested Dhs. 400 million in new mixers and pumps to modernize our S.S. Lootah Ready Mix concrete company alone," said Bin Hedda. " Our overall productivity will be enhanced with this investment and it will give a great boost to our quality, health, safety and environment programs to achieve our goals of managing an intelligent, effective and eco-friendly fleet."

A recent study by the Dubai Transport and Road Authority concluded that vehicle emissions cause about 80% of air pollution in Dubai. The new fleet management policy adopted by S.S. Lootah Group promises to reduce and environmental pollution and traffic congestion. "We have been working over the past 18 with Canadian and German experts and we concluded that modernization of our fleet management has tremendous financial and environmental benefits," concluded Mr. Bin Hedda.
