FAMCO wins warehousing project at Dubai Airport Mega Cargo Terminal

- PRESS RELEASE
FAMCO (Al-Futtaim Auto & Machinery Company) has been awarded the subcontract by SD Middle East (Siemens) for the supply and installation of a state-of-the-art Dexion ASRS (Automatic Storage & Retrieval System) to the new Cargo Mega Terminal at the Dubai International Airport expansion project.
On behalf of the Department of Civil Aviation, the Cargo Mega Terminal will allow receipt of air freight on the air side of the airport, to be broken down for transhipment or for local deliveries by road from the land side.
The design is a complex arrangement consisting of a steel racking system supplied by Famco/Dexion with an integrated stationary hoist system, input and output areas, and with the storage and retrieval machines running in the racking aisles.
Owing to the building and material flow design, it is absolutely necessary from a technical point of view that the racking system be connected to the main framework of the hoist system, i.e. to integrate the hoist systems into the entire racking structure, since a hoist serves two racking aisles or performs 900 transfer to the storage and retrieval machine via the racking.
In addition, extensive maintenance and escape routes are arranged on top of the racking. These must be rated and designed in compliance with the relevant standards. The upper guide rail of the storage & retrieval machines is also planned and integrated into the system by Dexion.
The scope of work for FAMCO and Dexion is the design, engineering, manufacture, installation, commissioning and handover of the ASRS racking system, the connections between the hoist towers and racking system, overhead access walkway for maintenance of the hoists plus site supervision and project management.
"We are absolutely delighted to be involved in this project" said FAMCO's Managing Director, Paul Floyd. "Together with our partners from Dexion, our Project Management team is totally focussed on the challenge ahead"
