DuBiotech and Ministry of Health to form joint committee to enhance biotech and pharmaceutical regulations

Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech) officials, led by Dr. Abdulqader Al Khayat, Executive Director, met with UAE Minister of Health, HE Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami last week to discuss the formation of a joint committee to enhance Dubai's regulatory framework for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
The joint committee will particularly focus on regulations for pharmaceutical facilities, drug registration and licensing. "We are keen to collaborate with the Ministry of Health, which is an important stakeholder in the development of the UAE's biotechnology industry," said Dr. Abdulqader Al Khayat, Executive Director of DuBiotech.
"After an initial analysis of existing legislation, we will work with the Ministry to benchmark Dubai's regulatory framework and practices against those of the United States, Canada, EU, Japan, and Singapore. We will develop a regulatory framework for the biotech and pharmaceutical industries by spring of next year," he added.
During the meeting, the Minister of Health expressed his keenness to support the growth of the life science industry in the UAE. The Minister of Health also spoke highly of DuBiotech's vision for accelerating the development of this industry.
