Dr. Khirbash was accompanied by H.E. Khaled Al Bustani, Assistant Undersecretary for Revenue and Budget and EIDA Board Member and other senior officials from the Ministry who visited the EIDA Registration Center at Mushrif in Abu Dhabi.

"The Population Register and ID Card Project is one of the most important projects being implemented in the UAE. It will play a major role in developing the government sector as it provides an accurate and unified database of the UAE's population. Obtaining accurate statistics for different sectors such as health, education and population is possible via this project, and this will directly impact services that the government provides,"

said Dr. Mohammad Khalfan Bin Khirbash, Minister of State for Finance and Industry.

Dr. Khirbash noted that the visit to the registration centre enabled the team from his Ministry to experience first hand the roll out of the second phase of the ID card project that involves registration of federal government employees.

Dr. Khirbash also added that the Ministry of Finance and Industry pioneered the system of the e-dirham in 2001 to facilitate the collection of fees for government transactions. He also expressed his keenness to integrate the e-dirham with the ID Card project to facilitate different financial transactions in the UAE and mentioned that the Ministry of Finance will work with EIDA in integrating the e-dirham feature into the ID Card.

Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director General of EIDA said that the ID program aimed to replace the labor card, the driving license as well as certain specific documents with a single ID card, in order to facilitate different transactions and enhance the efficiency of governmental performance. The new ID card will include an e-wallet that can be used for the e-dirham project implemented by the Ministry of Finance.
