More movies on Emirates

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, July 04 - 2006 at 14:37
  • PRESS RELEASE

To kick-off the busy summer travel season, passengers flying on Emirates can now look forward to hours of non-stop entertainment with an increase in the number of new movie releases available onboard.

Passengers will be spoiled for choice as they can now enjoy 20 per cent more new release films on every route.

Inflight entertainment options now include 16 new movie releases, a broader range of television programmes as well as 26 audio channels and 50 interactive games.

On aircraft fitted with Emirates' inflight entertainment system, ice (information communications entertainment), currently available on over 40 per cent of the fleet, customers can enjoy 600 channels of entertainment- more content than any other inflight entertainment system in the air. Enhancements on ice now include 50 new movie releases, 25 movie classics, 25 children's films and large number of Arabic, Hindi and other world cinema films available.

Mike Simon, Divisonal Senior Vice President Corporate Communications, Emirates, said:

"Emirates strives to ensure that entertainment appeals to our customer: sophisticated business and family travellers from around the world. We continue to evaluate customer feedback and always look for new ways to provide more options that appeal to these diverse tastes."

He added: "Our team undertakes a rigorous process of reviewing all offerings to ensure the highest-quality, internationally diverse entertainment options. With 20 per cent more new releases added to our flights, passengers are sure to enjoy the widest possible range."

With so many options and unique entertainment programming for each flight, customers are virtually guaranteed to enjoy new entertainment every time they fly Emirates. To watch all of the films offered on the ice system, one would have to log about 300 hours of marathon movie watching- that's more than 20 flights between Dubai and New York - and that is before viewing any of the television programmes!

Emirates Airline Inflight Entertainment has demonstrated consistent success in awards recognition since its beginnings in 1985. Emirates continues to excel in inflight services by providing among the most comprehensive and state-of-the-art audio-visual options in the skies, with new enhancements introduced on a regular basis.

The carrier recently won "Best Inflight Entertainment" at the recent 2006 World Airline Awards by Skytrax. This is the second year in a row that Emirates has been chosen for the accolade, based on results of the Airline Inflight Entertainment Survey commissioned and conducted by Skytrax Research of London. This award, voted on by over 1 million airline passengers, maintains Emirates' global leadership in the inflight entertainment category.
