DTCM rolls out exciting Food Surprises

The Food Surprises theme organised by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is set for an exciting beginning with a colourful use of high-tech laser, music and choreography and a display of a variety of international cuisine, at the opening ceremony scheduled to be held at the Mall of the Emirates at 7-30 p.m.on July 6.

Some of the events lined up for the opening day are the Dubai Cuisine Festival, The City of Gold Display by Nestle, Chocolate Charity bag, Cookery competition by Better Life and the Kitchen of International Food by the Emirates Culinary Guild.

The DTCM has laid out elaborate plans to tempt the taste-buds of food connoisseurs during the Food Surprises that will run up to July 12. Around 300 exotic events have been lined up with a sum AED 5 million going into the making of the Food Surprises

An exotic array of gourmet and culinary delights are in store with international chefs serving up exotic recipes for residents and children to savour.

A part of Dubai's annual summer retail extravaganza, Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), the DTCM-organised Food Surprises has more than 300 different culinary events including international food carnivals, food plays, live cookery shows, baking of international cakes, food art, carving and garnishing etc.

Mr. Marwan bin Beyat, Chairman of the Food Surprises Committee and DTCM Manager Events, said : "The DTCM has exciting treats in store for adults and children whose appetite will be whetted by the varied taste of international cuisine during the Food Surprises."

Five shopping malls including Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Batuta Mall, BurJuman, Mercato and Deira City Centre and 42 hotels in the four star and five star categories will join in the activities of the Food Surprises week.

"We (DTCM) have found new partners this year like Braun, Better Life and Siemens, along with those with whom we have worked for many years including Jumeirah, Emirates Culinary Guild, Dubai Inter-continental Hotel, Bab Al Shams, Nestle, Abela and Paris Gallery," he added.

A series of edutainment activities have also been lined up with four plays evolving around the theme of food. "The Secret of Food Play" will be staged at the BurJuman Centre daily from July 6 to 12, the World of Food Play from July 6-11 at the Ibn Batuta Mall , The Golden Ticket Show at the Deira City Centre daily from July 6-12 and the International Restaurant Show at the Mall of the Emirates daily from July 6-12.

A number of international chefs are working to create a success recipe for the Food Surprises including Chef Uwe Micheel, Chairman of the Emirates Culinary Guild, Chef Andy, Operations Manager and Supervisor of the Jumeirah Group, Chef Andreas from the Renaissance Hotel and Chef Allen Thong Coordinator of the Emirates Culinary Guild.

The Food Surprises is also being supported by some newly-opened hotels and restaurants like Park Hyatt, Grosvenor House, Kempinski Mall of the Emirates and Chelsea. Avari Dubai and Lotus hotels will join in the different activities for the first time.

As part of the DTCM's sustained social commitment, a team from the Food Surprises Committee will be visiting children from orphanages and taking them to the Modhesh Fun City so that they can be a part of the fun lined up for children during DSS. Similar visits have also been planned for young thalassaemia patients.

A team from the Food Surprises Committee will offer specials gifts for children born at the Al Wasl and Dubai Hospital at the beginning of the Food Surprises Week on July 6.
