CSI is operational in 44 ports in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and North, South and Central America. CSI is designed to identify and examine high-risk containers destined for the US. As part of the initiative, CBP officers are stationed at the terminal, working closely with local authorities and the terminal operator. Radiation detection equipment is also installed.
At Caucedo, CBP officers will work at the terminal on a pilot basis. DP World is currently investing in radiation detection equipment, which will replace the radiation detection equipment initially supplied by CBP.
DP World Chairman, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said,
'This is an important initiative and we are committed to working with the U.S. authorities to facilitate security at our terminals, which are some of the busiest in the world.'
DP World CEO Mohammed Sharaf said, 'Security is part of the core services we provide our customers. Participation in CSI will help Caucedo and the Dominican Republic grow even more rapidly.'
DP World Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Americas Region, David Sanborn said, 'We are pleased to be involved in CSI at Caucedo, which is an important entry point to the US for our customers. We already serve the US Navy at Caucedo - being involved in CSI brings a significant benefit to our other customers, the world's foremost shipping lines. With CSI pre-screening, cargo being shipped to the United States from the Port of Caucedo will enjoy the benefit of entering the US as domestic cargo.'
