According to the report, there are currently 6 public hospitals in Dubai with more than 1,800 beds. According to Mr. Mohsin Bassalaaha, Director of Licensing & Specifications in DOHMS, 'the main strategy and goal of the Government of Dubai is to have the private healthcare sector account for 70% of the healthcare services in Dubai. As a result of this, 26 new hospital projects are expected to be completed by 2010.'
Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), the region's only healthcare free zone, is expected to host 17 private hospitals with a total of 2,325 beds by the year 2010, 65% of the new projects total capacity expected in Dubai.
Local and international healthcare investors in Dubai have expressed significant interest in DHCC with new development in the free zone: the teaching hospital with focus on cancer and heart disease, two general hospitals, an orthopedics hospital, a neurosurgery hospital, two hospitals specializing in Plastic Surgery, a dedicated children's hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, a psychiatry hospital and a nursing home.
Acknowledging the assessment of the report, Dr. Ayesha Abdullah, Director of the Center for Healthcare Planning and Quality (CPQ) at Dubai Healthcare City said: 'The information provided by the report emphasizes Dubai's priorities in the healthcare industry and give a clear outlook or the potential healthcare investor.'
