Syria spurns dollar for euro

Syria will repeg its currency from the US dollar by December, to reflect closer ties with Europe, according to Bloomberg. The new peg will either be a weighted group of currencies including the euro, or IMF Special Drawing Rights loans. Syria sold $2.9bn of goods to the EU in 2005, compared with $155m to the US.
