1bn to die of tobacco

Tobacco may kill one billion people this century, according to the American Cancer Society quoted in the Associated Press. This is ten times as many people as it killed in the 20th century. An estimated 1.25bn people currently smoke cigarettes, and more than half of them will die from the habit.
