- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, July 15 - 2006 at 15:08
- PRESS RELEASE
The Disney Magic event opened at the Mall of the Emirates amid much fanfare and celebrations. The much-awaited event, a part of the fun-filled calendar for Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), will run until July 25.
Disney Magic has a movie festival, Movie Magic, at its core designed to keep the whole family entertained. Movie Magic is a good opportunity to catch up on Disney classics that you may have missed on the wide screen. What better way to escape the summer heat than retreat into the magical world of Disney in a cool theatre with a bucket of popcorn and juice.
Classics that will be screened include Brother Bear (July 15), Home on the Range (July 16), Jungle Book 2 (July 17), Finding Nemo (July 18), Monsters Inc (July 19), The Incredibles (July 20), Chronicles of Narnia (July 21), The Emperor's New Groove (July 22), Tarzan (July 23), Treasure Planet (July 24), Chicken Little (July 25), Return to Never Land (July 26), Beauty & The Beast and Toy Story 2 (July 28).
The event runs from 10.30am to 10pm daily, with the film screening starting at 10.30am and the entertainment activities in the Galleria Area starting from 12.30pm onwards.
Kids can see attractions such as the house of Winnie the Pooh and '100 Years of Disney' - an exhibit that depicts the evolution of Disney through the years. The Arts & Crafts Corner also has a Disney Workshop where children can work on unique Disney-themed art and craft projects, with different themed activities on different days. Disney Artist is a rare opportunity to witness the masters who bring Disney characters to life.
To freeze memories in time, there is the Princess Parlor, a studio-like setting where children can don their favourite Disney character costumes and pose for photographs. It's a complete themed corner with princess accessories. Little boys will love the Pirates Zone, where they can dress up as pirates and take pictures.
The newly introduced dedicated Game Area is complete with a whole array of life-size games that will have kids shrieking with joy. Within the mall, children can meet and greet their favourite Disney characters on July 23, 24 and 25, and the rest of the bunch who move around meeting their friends and to take the joy home, a merchandise kiosk lets you stock up on your favourite Disney memorabilia. The Stage Shows running from 6.30 to 7.30pm will have Bibbidie Bobbadie Boo Magic Show on July 16, Story Time with Belle on July 17, Under the Sea Puppet Show on July 18, Disney Scene It Game on July 19, Disney Heroes on July 20, Disney Movie Theme Songs on July 21, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on July 22 with repeat of the shows on following days and a Fashion Show on the concluding day of July 28. The shows with different themes are also held from 8.30 to 9.30pm daily with a finale on the last day.
Event sponsors for Disney Magic are Mall of the Emirates, Signal, Hewlett Packard, Cine Star, Channel 4 network and Khaleej Times.
The objective is to continue giving visitors a wholesome experience of Disney right here in Dubai. Children can beat the heat the Disney way with loads of fun, frolic and excitement. The lack of educative entertainment and the availability of untapped potential of Disney classics was the inspiration of Disney Magic.
Spurred on by the success of past years, DSS organisers have been inspired to recreate this in-mall event for the sixth consecutive year. Year after year Disney Magic has seen a steep surge in the attendance at the venue. After the tremendous response from the first year itself, where children packed the auditoriums, even sitting on the floor to enjoy the classics -- Disney Magic has expanded from screening only movies to interactive games and activities to keep all entertained.
Laila Suhail, Executive Project Director, DSS, said about its success, 'Disney Magic, which involves great films and memorable characters, is part of our entertainment package for the kids. The number of children who thronged the event on the opening day is proof enough of how eagerly it was awaited by the little ones. Hence, it has been our initiative all along to present the latest and the best from the world of entertainment to make it a memorable experience for the little ones."
The 10-week long DSS, which opened with the Ice Surprises week on June 21, celebrated Art Surprises and Food Surprises, continues with the weekly themes of Adventure Surprises, Cartoon Surprises, Nature Surprises, Knowledge Surprises, Flower Surprises, Heritage Surprises, and concludes with Back-2-School Surprises on September 1.
