The additional flights have been pressed into service in order to airlift passengers who moved to the Syrian capital by land after the shut down of the Beirut Airport.

The airline also announced that it will review extra flights to Damascus after analysing the ground situation on a daily basis, depending on whether the Damascus airport's schedule and capacity allowed such an increase. Air Arabia has also cancelled all its flights to and from Beirut till July 21.

Passengers booked on flights to and from Beirut have been requested to contact Air Arabia for alternate arrangements, the airline said.

In his comments, Mr. Adel Ali, CEO of Air Arabia, said: "We decided to have additional frequency on the Sharjah-Damascus sector in order to facilitate the airlift of passengers who are stranded in Damascus following the Israeli attacks on Lebanon. The decision to boost our schedules to Syria reflects our commitment to the people of this region in this moment of crisis and humanitarian need. We are putting various alternate procedures in place due to the unexpected operational circumstances."

Air Arabia has said that passengers who have booked on Beirut flights to and including July 31, 2006 can either claim full refunds or rebook to alternate destinations at no additional charge. "Passengers who wish to travel to our alternate destinations will just be required to pay the airfare difference and we have decided to waive off the rebooking charges." he added.

For passengers booked to and from Beirut effective on and after August 1, 2006, the airline has said that normal Air Arabia policy on refunds or cancellations will be applied till further notice.

Current Air Arabia destinations include Aleppo and Damascus (Syria); Alexandria, Assiut, Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt); Amman (Jordan); Astana and Almaty (Kazakhstan); Bahrain; Beirut (Lebanon); Colombo (Sri Lanka); Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh (KSA), Doha (Qatar); Istanbul (Turkey); Kabul (Afghanistan); Khartoum (Sudan); Kuwait; Jaipur, Kochi Mumbai and Nagpur (India); Muscat (Oman); Sana'a (Yemen); Sharjah (UAE) and Tehran (Iran).
