Syrianair, $300m Russian deal
- Syria: Monday, July 17 - 2006 at 13:42
Syrian Arab Airlines, Syria's national carrier, is considering whether to purchase Russian planes in order to replace parts of its ageing fleet, reported Reuters. US sanctions prevent Syrianair buying from Boeing or Airbus and so the airline has turned to Ilyushin and Tupolev. Chairman Nashat Numair said that the company may buy up to seven long range Ilyushin-96 and medium range Tupolev-204 aircraft at a cost of around $300m.
