The 'daily marvel' of high quality food being delivered to millions of people in the UAE despite high temperatures is about to become more impressive with the installation of high tech' solutions to reinforce cool chain logistics links.
Thought to be one of the first systems in the cool chain industry in Dubai, it will enable customers in their offices anywhere in the world to monitor the temperature of their food consignment in real time and to check past temperatures.
'Accurate temperature recording helps to maintain product quality, increase operational efficiency and reduce losses,' said George Oommen, Facility Manager of GSL.
'The delivery of thousands of tonnes of foodstuffs to consumers in the UAE each day is something we all take for granted. But, when you think of the temperatures you are facing, it is a kind of technology-enabled marvel.
'At GSL, our aim is to harness the best possible technology to deliver outstanding cold-chain logistics to our customers. The installation of the Scada temperature control system is part of that commitment.'
The warehousing facility also features racking and converters which enable the optimal use of cold storage space.
The complex offers a total of 20,000 tonnes capacity for frozen and chilled products, with temperatures ranging from -25C to +4C. A dozen special chambers offer landlord/tenant storage arrangements covering a size range of 12 sea containers to 1,500 pallets of stock.
GSL is a member of the Cool Chain Association (CCA) as well as the International Association of Refrigerated Warehousing (IARW), both organisations committed to developing and implementing best practice in the cool chain industry.
GSL's 'cool solution' for Dubai
Global Shipping and Logistics (GSL), the third party logistics (3PL) company behind a Dhs130 million warehousing and distribution centre at Dubai Investment Park, is installing one of the most up-to-date temperature control systems that will allow customers to monitor their food consignments over the Internet.
