The study, in its 20th year, was revamped to isolate consumers concerns about design flaws from defects and malfunctions, according to the Associated Press.

According to the survey, the Toyota brand remained a quality benchmark and had five winners, including the Corolla for the compact car category, and the Camry for midsize car. Toyota's luxury brand Lexus also achieved leading results.

President of Central Trade & Auto Company, Toyota dealer in Jordan, Mr. George Haddad, commented on the survey's results saying that, 'Toyota is determined to become the world's number one automobile manufacturer, adopting a smart strategy that embraces continuous improvement while studying its customers' needs in a unique fashion to fulfill their requirements effectively and efficiently.'

According to J.D. Power & Associates, the Initial Quality Study serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. It measures various qualities that come under different categories like design, driving, performance, brake system, engine and gear.

This year's study was based on responses from 63,607 purchasers and lessees of new 2006 model-year cars and trucks. J.D. Power and Associates is an ISO 9001-registered global marketing information services firm operating in key business sectors.

On the other hand, Toyota's profits increased during the first quarter of this year by 39% due to its developed performance and continuous growth in its sales for the sixth year respectively.

In addition, Toyota Motor Corp's total sale during that period reached $ 51.6 billion, rising by 18% from last years' sale for the same period.

With the increase in its sales around the world, Toyota is getting ready to become the world's largest automaker and with that tops General Motor Corp.
