RTA signs an agreement with DCA for the construction of stations and viaduct facilities within Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 of the Dubai Metro Project

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), of Dubai recently visited the Dubai Civil Aviation and signed an agreement with the DCA for the construction of two stations and viaduct LRT facilities opposite Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 of the Metro Project.
Strategic plans for the next 15 years which revolve around creating an integrated transport solution in the Emirate were reviewed. These included the network of roads, metro and trams that would connect the existing Dubai International Airport to the upcoming Jebel Ali airport. A new metro express line would be designed to connect the two airports with limited stations that would have an operational speed of 100 km/hr compared to the speed of the Red Line which is under construction and will have a speed of 45 km/hr.
The construction of stations would be financed, produced and managed by the DCA where as the RTA shall procure and manage and supervise certain works of viaduct construction within the airport through the Contractor of the metro project, (referred as DURL) and DCA shall fund these works.
H.H Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said, "This agreement is a development point for Dubai in general and DCA in particular, and in lines with the expansion been executed in the Dubai Airport. We encourage this step taken by the RTA which will contribute largely in highlighting distinguished services of the Dubai Airport."
H.E Mattar Al Tayer said, "The support of the DCA is vital for a seamless and an integrated operation of the Metro. We are grateful to the DCA for their corporation and for setting an example. We hope relevant government authorities lend their keen support towards such prestigious projects."
The details of the Metro Project were presented during the signing of the agreement. The Metro project will be the most strategic and prestigious project in Dubai which will cost around AED 15.5 billion. It includes the construction of two lines- Red and Green with an overall length of 70 km. The system is completely driverless and is the longest of its type in the world.
Out of the mentioned 70 km track around 12.5 kilometers are in tunnels and the remaining part is basically elevated on bridges. The project includes 39 stations out of which 9 are underground. More than 23, 200 passengers will commute per hour per direction.
