EIDA officials briefed Sheikha Lubna about the registration process and the identity program, which is considered one of the most advanced in the Middle East.

"The PRIDC program uses the most advanced technology and this will be crucial in designing and efficiently implementing developmental projects," the minister said. Sheikha Lubna urged EIDA and other further technology-oriented government initiatives such as the E-government program to coordinate and work together to achieve more efficiency.

The minister, whose registration comes a day after the government announced the latest national census results, said EIDA's PRIDC program complements the census program because both will help the country's planners with vital statistics about the people and the economy.

'However, the big difference is that the census happens only once in five years, whereas the PRIDC will provide the country's planners up-to-date statistics on an ongoing basis,' Sheikha Lubna said.

Attributing the country's tremendous economic progress to the policies adopted by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikha Lubna said: "The UAE has achieved considerable progress during the last few years which is evident in all sectors of the economy. The UAE's GNP (gross national product), per capita income, and economic growth bear testimony to this progress."

Sheikha Lubna said the PRIDC program aims at improving governmental performance and services to the citizens and residents of the UAE. 'The PRIDC program will undoubtedly support the work and mandate of the Ministry of Economy and Planning by providing a reliable information database for planning," she added.

Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director General of EIDA, said Sheikha Lubna's registration for the new ID card is in line with the leadership's directive to promote national projects that enhance the safety and security of economic transactions in the country.

Sheikha Lubna praised UAE President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the rulers of the emirates who registered under the PRIDC program. Their initiatives serve as an encouragement to all citizens and nationals in the UAE to register, she noted.

EIDA is implementing a modern population register and ID Card program, which is designed to protect personal identities from fraudulent or unauthorized use, support government planning services, and position the UAE as a leader in leveraging information technology for national development.
