Illegal antiquities trade
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, August 01 - 2006 at 07:42
Smuggled ancient artifacts from countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan are being traded in the UAE, because of the lack of legislation to block the trade, according to Gulf News. Poor security in Asian countries is also to blame. A Federal law drafted in March 2005 should be ratified in the near future, according to officials. Some antiquities being sold are 5,000 years old.
