Scheduled to be held from 12 to 14 September 2006 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre under the auspices of the Ministry of Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources, Gulf Eco is supported by UNESCO and UNEP.
One of the most attended 2-year event on the environment in the region, Gulf Eco will focus on 'Deserts Ecosystems and Combating Desertification' as the primary theme in 2006. The event will feature the full range of environmental products and services for various industrial sectors, and specifically targets corporate houses, government officials, the media, and the general public.
'At Shell Oman, the environment is one of our top priorities. That is why we believe that Gulf Eco is an unparalleled occasion to build awareness of the technologies and practices that Shell Oman employs to minimise the ecological impact of our operations,' said Mr. Irshad Lawati, Managing Director, Shell Oman Marketing Company.
Besides complying with stringent HSE practises, Shell Oman uses modern double-skin storage tanks with electronic monitoring systems to minimise the risk of soil contamination. The company has also pioneered the reclamation of potential air pollutant vapours through an innovative Vapour Recovery Unit. Shell Oman is also committed to the continuous evolution of products, like Shell Helix Super engine oil to reduce vehicular emission, and Shell 'Better Mileage' petrol for more efficient combustion.
Shell Oman has also long been an active participant in several programmes promoting eco-tourism, and sponsoring research on critically endangered species - like the indigenous Arabian leopard, dolphins, whales and turtles. The company has even proactively taken on environmental initiatives like cleanup operations along local beaches and reefs.
These endeavours have been in collaboration with various government and non-government organisations, like the Office of the Adviser for Conservation of the Environment (Diwan of Royal Court), the Ministry of Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources, the Ministry of Tourism, the Muscat Municipality, and the Environment Society of Oman, among others.
'Gulf Eco will be another excellent opportunity for Shell Oman to demonstrate its commitment to preserving the pristine land, air and marine ecosystems of Oman,' added Mr. Irshad Lawati.
