Egypt reclaims desert

Egypt plans to reclaim 1.4m hectares of desert over the next decade, to cope with the population boom in the already-overcrowded Nile Corridor, according to Voice of America. Reclamation involves pumping millions of cubic metres per day of water onto the desert. The ultimate plan is to resettle six million Egyptians from the Nile Valley to southern Egypt and the western oases.
