TECOM Investments launches campaign to support Lebanon war victims
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, August 03 - 2006 at 14:53
- PRESS RELEASE
TECOM Investments has launched a community campaign to mobilise aid for the victims of the war on Lebanon.
In association with the UAE Red Crescent Society, TECOM is conducting a five-day relief collection drive in the free zone from Sunday, 30 July, 2006 till Thursday, 3 August, 2006 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
TECOM has called on its employees, business partners and the general public to contribute cash and essential items like tinned food, clothes, blankets, household utensils, medicines, flour, sugar and baby milk. Special collection booths have been erected for this purpose in the food courts in Dubai Internet City Building 3, Dubai Media City Building 2 and 7, and Dubai Knowledge Village 7.
"Lebanon needs our help now and I am happy that the TECOM team has risen to the occasion," said Abdullatif Al Mulla, CEO of TECOM Investments. "As a socially responsible organisation, we have always believed in extending a helping hand whenever it is needed," he added.
Earlier, TECOM issued an internal appeal urging employees to donate to a Lebanon Relief Fund. In the dirham-for-dirham initiative, the total amount donated by employees was matched by TECOM.
"The war on Lebanon has devastated normal life and thousands have been rendered homeless and destitute without access to many basic necessities," said Al Mulla. "They are in need of aid, both for immediate relief as well as for future reconstruction. We encourage people in Dubai and UAE to contribute to help the Lebanese people in their hour of need," Al Mulla said.
This is TECOM Investments' second major contribution to disaster relief in the past two years. When the tsunami struck South East Asia in December 2004, TECOM employees contributed to support the victims of the disaster.
