ADTA presides over Steering Committee meeting
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, August 12 - 2006 at 10:59
- PRESS RELEASE
The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) presided over the sixth meeting of the Tour Operators Committee held at its premises yesterday.
The meeting identified geographical sites which were considered ideal for desert safaris and accompanied activities.
In remarks during the meeting ADTA Director General and Chairman of the Committee Mubarak Al Muhairi hailed the role of the committee in coordinating the efforts of various bodies involved in the tourism development in the emirate.
"These concerted efforts will yield positive results in bolstering the tourism boom in the emirate", he said. Muhairi commended the proposals of the committee members aimed at bringing greater vibrancy to the tourism industry. He particularly lauded the proposals to address the hurdles that are impeding the speedy growth of the tourism boom. These proposals, he said, are indigenous in terms of contents and are bound to reinvigorate tourism as they will highlight the cultural and heritage aspects. They also highlight the social, cultural and environmental uniqueness of Abu Dhabi in particular and the UAE in general.
Meanwhile, the participants at the meeting presented a set of creative proposals to match the current tourism growth indices at various levels. It was noted that cultural and heritage aspects were increasingly becoming popular among different tour groups. This remarkable popularity, said the participants, calls for urgent expansion of the heritage and cultural services. The meeting underlined the need to widen such services so as to encourage more flux of tourists to the emirate and thereby sustain the level of interaction between the UAE and the rest of the world. The heritage aspect was unanimously hailed as a positive reflection of the cultural identity of Abu Dhabi emirate.
In addition to the ADTA, the meeting was attended by 13 representatives, representing agencies and institutions involved in the marketing and promotional drive of Abu Dhabi.
