Wireless Internet service is now available at Dubai International Airport.
The service allows passengers free access to Internet on their laptops, PDA's (Portable Digital Assistant), and smart phones, in select areas in both the Arrivals and Departures areas of the Dubai International Airport. The availability of the service is currently being expanded under the second phase of the wireless connectivity project. The project, which is expected to be completed within this year, will make the service available almost throughout the entire airport.

"The launch of the free of charge wireless Internet service at Dubai International Airport is a milestone for the DCA, and is indicative of our keenness to keep abreast of technology which improves the services we provide to the passengers,"

Jamal Al Hai, Director, Strategy and Management Excellence, and Chairman of the Executive Board at DCA said.

He noted that the service would be a great convenience for passengers, who will now be able to stay connected and online. "With Dubai fast emerging as a global trade and tourism hub, the wireless Internet service acquires a new meaning. Millions of passengers pass through Dubai International Airport each year, and a rising number of them depend on such a service for business, information and entertainment," Al Hai said. He added that passengers transiting through Dubai International Airport would drive immense benefit from the free service.

Under the first phase of the project, most of the concourse was brought under coverage with hotspots at Dubai Duty Free, the Food Court, Costa Coffee, Starbucks, Safar Restaurant, and all lounges. The service is also available at the Food Court in the departures area.

According to Al Hai the quality, speed and capacity of the service will be further enhanced under the ongoing second phase of the project. "Telecommunication has shrunk the world, and there is an increasing need for services that keep people connected to their business and work, and to have access to information on the go. The Department of Civil Aviation attaches great importance to this need of the passengers," Al Hai noted.
