The first in a series of initiatives adopted by the security giant is the distribution of a 'Home and Home Office Security Monthly'. This monthly newsletter aimed at small users focuses on providing an overview of the top security threats of the month, together with ways to combat these.

"The home and home office user comprises a very large proportion of Symantec's customer base", said Kevin Isaac, Symantec's Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa. "It therefore becomes necessary to provide a value added service such as this newsletter in order to ensure that the customers are up to date with the latest in security trends and capable of protecting their systems and their environment from malicious code attacks".

Symantec has also started issuing a newsletter to its channel partners. This comprises of specific news targeted at each of the five specialisations: security management, system and storage management, data management, application performance management and insight and expertise.

The content of the newsletter revolves around general Symantec news, region-specific news, value added content which is of relevance to the channel in the region and news on EMEA marketing campaign programmes and pan-EMEA events.

"The new programmes supplement Symantec's enterprise early warning system, whereby its enterprise customers are aware of active global attacks before their environment is hit,"

said Isaac. "This service, called the Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System, provides actionable intelligence covering the complete threat lifecycle from initial vulnerability to active attack."

Symantec has added a new set-up wizard to DeepSight, its threat management system that enables users to receive actionable information and useful alerts within minutes of configuration. With personalized notification triggers and expert analysis, the system enables enterprises to prioritise IT resources in order to better protect critical information assets against a potential attack. As the first early warning service to deliver spyware and adware alert and warning information, Symantec also helps organisations mitigate and remove these security risks. Symantec also provides DeepSight Alert Services which send alerts when a system is shown to be vulnerable due to a newly discovered threat, exploit or product vulnerability.

In addition to these initiatives, Symantec is shortly introducing an RSS feed whereby the latest news and trends in security and protection will be updated on the subscribers' desktops as and when they occur. This would be extremely beneficial, especially to those networks that are connected to the internet 24/7.

"Symantec always strives to bring the latest information to its customers, and we are confident that the measures we have taken will be viewed positively by them," said Isaac. "These will constantly be updated to ensure that our customers' needs are taken care of and that they are provided with the necessary security information on a regular basis".
