The event, which is the only dedicated travel exhibition for the Eastern Mediterranean, will open in Cairo as scheduled on 5-7 September, 2006.

Despite regional tensions in the Middle East, trade pre-registration has exceeded expectations and are currently over 100% up on the same figure for the corresponding period last year. To date, MTF 2006 has attracted 35 new exhibiting companies, with a total exhibition area of 2,499 sq. meters.

A total of 27 countries are represented in this year's exhibition, including 5 new countries, which are making their first appearance in the event: these include Brazil, Bulgaria, France, Kosovo and Uganda.

Greece will be this years' Feature Country and will be hosting a Gala Dinner on the opening evening of the exhibition at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza hotel. They will also be exhibiting on stand of over 160sqm showcasing all that this unique destination has to offer.

The Hosted Buyer® programme was new to the show last year and this year will double in size attracting key meetings and incentives buyers from around the world. The show will also see the Meridian Club lounge moving onto the show floor to be situated next to the hosted appointment session area, making it more convenient and accessible to our VIP buyers.

A comprehensive programme of seminars will take place over two days, offering visitors an ideal opportunity to learn about a variety of travel and tourism subjects.

'We are delighted that MTF 2006 has generated this level of interest despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East. We understand the impact of such tensions but are pleased that they do not prevent exhibitors and visitors from pursuing business as usual. Egypt has traditionally been a very safe and stable venue even during more acute spells of turmoil. We expect participants and visitors to feel comfortable coming to Cairo for the event,'

said Chris Chackal, Group Exhibition Director, Mediterranean Travel Fair.
