DCCI receives new Consul General of Thailand

Mr. Atiq Juma Nasib, Director of Business Development Department at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), received His Excellency Pasan Teparak, newly-appointed Consul General of Thailand in Dubai, who visited the DCCI along with a number of advisors from the Thai Parliament and senior officials from the Royal General Consulate in Dubai.

Mr. Atiq Juma Nasib welcomed the Thai delegation and wished the new Consul General a pleasant residence in the UAE through which he could enhance the bilateral trade relations between Thailand and the UAE, Dubai in particular. He also highlighted the importance of bilateral trade ties between the UAE and Thailand which is one of the main South Asian tourist destinations for UAE nationals.

Nasib stressed the key role played by the DCCI in coping with the comprehensive economic development of Dubai, as well as in supporting the national economy through the Chamber's continuous support to the business community and investors and the outstanding commercial services offered to traders and exporters to help enhance their commercial activities and open new markets for their products.

"The DCCI is always trying to play a significant role in supporting the trade ties between the Dubai business community and its counterparts in Thailand through increasing the number of Thai businessmen and investors operating in Dubai, and the importance of urging them to take part in all economic activities and trade fairs which the DCCI organizes in Dubai and overseas due to its importance in effectively promoting Thai products," said Nasib.

His Excellency Pasan Teparak, Consul General of Thailand in Dubai, stressed his government's interest in enhancing the diplomatic and economic relations with the UAE, and Dubai in particular, as well as the Thai government's interest in opening new channels of cooperation between the Thai business community and its counterpart in Dubai.

"We are interested in supporting our bilateral economic cooperation especially in the construction and tourism sectors, as Thailand succeeded in developing its economy in the past 15 years through enhancing all its economic sectors and services. We stress our intention to establish a form of mutual trade collaboration in sectors of construction, steel industry, carpet industry, furniture and others," said Teparak.

Mr. Nasib expressed the DCCI's readiness to cooperate with the Thai businessmen through arranging networking meetings with some businessmen and representatives of business groups in Dubai to develop bilateral trade ties.

Dubai's total direct trade with Thailand reached AED 4.2 billion in 2005, including the value of the trade handled by the companies operating at Dubai free zones. Dubai's imports from Thailand in 2005 reached AED 3.7 billion as Dubai's total exports and re-exports to Thailand surged in 2005 to AED 452.7 million. The rate of growth in the value of Dubai imports reached 12.3% compared to 2004, while the rate of growth of Dubai's exports and re-exports stood for 36.9% compared to 2004.
