Meanwhile the opening ceremony will be addressed by HE Dr Abdulla Al Kubaisi, Chairman of QSTP.
Explore QSTP takes place on the 4th and 5th of September at the Ritz-Carlton hotel, and is open to the public from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on both days.

"Explore QSTP is a timely event for Qatar," said Dr Abdulla Al Thani, who will talk about the link between academic and applied knowledge at Education City. "As an integral part of Qatar Foundation, Qatar Science & Technology Park and its member companies are helping to build a knowledge economy in this country, creating opportunities for our young scientists and engineers. I am very pleased to speak at Explore QSTP and I think that people be quite impressed when they see Qatar's plans for research and commercialisation."

Explore QSTP showcases ground-breaking activities taking shape at Qatar Science & Technology Park. A major part of the exhibition will be displays and seminars by QSTP's member companies EADS, ExxonMobil, Gartner Lee, GE, Microsoft, Rolls-Royce, Shell and Total, highlighting the exciting research projects they are planning in Qatar.

Dr Chuck Thorpe's seminar is titled The Career Path of an Idea: From Classroom to Community. He said, "Universities in Qatar like Carnegie Mellon are driven by research. Our faculty use their research to inform their teaching; our students are involved in research projects in classes and in internships. In order for our research to have a real impact, we work hard on moving it to commercialization.

'QSTP is a vital link in that process. I look forward to sharing with the community my own experiences in commercialising technology, and how we see Qatar becoming a leader in this area."

Activities on Monday 4th September are geared towards the business community and government, while the second day of Explore QSTP is aimed at the general public. Students will find the afternoon of Tuesday 5th September particularly interesting, as it focuses on QSTP's strong ties to Qatar Foundation and its universities.

Explore QSTP will also host the award ceremony of the highly popular Qatar 2031 Time Capsule Competition, which has encouraged Qatar's youth to think about technologies of the future. The ceremony takes place on Tuesday 5th September. Winners will be announced, prizes awarded, and some of the exceptionally creative entries will be on display.
