Organised by the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED), as part of the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), the exhibition is a good place to stock up on school supplies in time for the start of the new academic year on September 1.

More than 32 cabins have been set up in the long entrance lobby area of the convention centre so children and parents can shop for school supplies in comfort. On offer are a wide variety of school supplies, stationery, toys, books and even children's fashion accessories.

The variety of knapsacks, school bags and lunch carriers on offer is enough to make children want to go to school. Popular kids characters such as Modhesh, Bratz, Barbie and Powerpuff Girls can be seen on everything from files and folders to keychains, pens and bags.

The JAFZA-based Pilot Pen company has been thrilled with the response. "It is the first time that we are participating in this exhi9bition and we are extremely satisfied with the response. As the date of school opening draws nearer, we expect the response to get better," said CEO Akira Ota. The Pilot Pen stall has special offers such as set of three gel markers for AED 18. In the evenings, they also have face painting at their stall.

Fashion accessories company Organza Trading has costume jewellery and accessories for all age groups: from little toddlers to teenagers. The goods are being offered at discounted prices, and they have been happy with the response so far said their salesperson.

For the first time, this year's exhibition includes eight booths for Intelaq licenses, issued to Dubai-based nationals who are interested to set up and operate their own businesses single-handedly from their home-based offices, as part of supporting young national to enter the business world.

Sultan Lootah, Head of the Organising Committee, said, "The Back-2-School activities are the highlight of Dubai Summer Surprises. It has attracted much interest from children in previous years. We have lined up a series of activities that will enable children to enjoy themselves and get them ready for a new school year."

Added Lootah, "This year, however, the exhibition will also focus on the Intelaq licenses as part of DED's role in encouraging young UAE nationals in developing and managing their private businesses."

The Back to School Exhibition is held in partnership with Abu Dhabi National Bank and Al Sayegh Group. It is sponsored by New Horizon Institute, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Al Yousuf Group, Grand Stores, Dubai Commercial Bank, Al Rawabi, Mohammed Sharif and Brothers Stores, Acer, and Khaleej Times as main sponsors.
The 10-week long DSS, which opened with Ice Surprises week on June 21, celebrated the Arts Surprises Week, Food Surprises, Adventure Surprises, Cartoon Surprises, Nature Surprises, Knowledge Surprises, Flower Surprises and Heritage Surprises concludes with the ongoing Back-2-School Surprises on September 1.
