China leads oil demand growth

China will lead the growth in oil consumption this year as its economy continues to expand rapidly, according to figures from the US Energy Information Administration and cited by Bloomberg. China will consume 7.4m bpd this year, up 500,000 on last year, and representing 38% of the global oil demand growth. China now uses more than twice as much oil as it did ten years ago.
