Thousands join the Woman Today anniversary celebrations

But it was also a celebration of the success today's women have achieved. The opening of the festival was marked by a cake cutting ceremony. The cake specially conceived and designed for Woman Today Anniversary and had all the 12 previous covers of Woman Today spread on a chocolaty icing and was an artistic as well as a gastronomic delight prepared by Café Bateel.

The events, which were spread over two days - the 25th and 26th of August, saw a potpourri of culture and talent. From Taekwondo by Falcon Academy to Fashion shows presented by Emporium and Caroline Designs, Traditional dances of India and Sri Lanka and a sizzling Salsa performance. Not only that, the ladies got a first hand feel of Salsa by trying out some basic steps. The women also tried their hand at putting and chipping at the indoor golf course. The event kept many women away from her work and home this weekend.

Spot quizzes and contests made sure that most of the women left the festival with prizes. Commercial Bank gave away two mobile phones and Qatar Airways together with Qatar Airways Holidays sponsored the grand prize of a holiday for two to Maldives.

The festival was a result of many partners getting together. Prominent brands like Nokia by Consolidated Gulf Company, Powerplate, Escada by Emporium, Cadillac by Mannai Trading Co, Carnegie Mellon Qatar, Q-tel, Qatar Airways & Qatar Airways Holidays, Ali Bin Ali and Commercialbank were the event partners. The official host for the festival was the Ritz-Carlton, Doha, Café Bateel provided the refreshments. Qatar Media Services joined as the media partner, Star Images did the fashion show choreography.
