A local preliminary league is to be held for the first time at Saly Computer Mall in Nasr City, under the sponsorship of Gigabyte. This tournament is part of Gigabyte's initiatives of sponsoring video games championships held during the past few months, thereby allowing 2 players to travel to France to represent Egypt in Video Games World Cup.

'Video gaming is the first sport to reach Egypt in decades and the most exciting one. Video gaming community is rapidly growing amounting to tens of thousands of players,' said Hussein Atef, regional marketing manager for Gigabyte Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

'This contest is not a worldwide gaming contest, but an international league aiming at boosting harmony and joy by sharing feelings and emotions. The contest logo calls for peace and unity among players and mutual respect among sponsors'.

'The launch of WCG preliminaries highlights the strength of the connection between Gigabyte and its clients. The company aims at creating a nucleus gaming community in Egypt, preparing a new generation of professional gamers, setting legal and moral standards for the gaming practices and finally competing at the international level,' Atef added.

'This tournament is indeed a festival of global cultures that cross boundaries, languages and geography. It typifies respect for universal fundamentals based on moral principles with no frontiers to gaming,' Atef concludes his announcement.

'We are keen at Gigabyte to hold national WCG contest in Egypt at this timing to send names of qualified gamers to WCG Association to participate in WCG Grand Finals held in Monza, Italy along with 70 countries. Egypt is expected to participate through Gigabyte's team,' commented Ahmed Aly, marketing manager at Gigabyte Egypt.

'Access will be given to gamers with coupons distributed with Computer and Internet World (CIW) magazine, the media sponsor. Each gamer will be assigned a code number. The access coupon is an appreciative and thankful card for participation from Gigabyte, International Gaming Association, sponsors such as Metra, Saly Mall, Creative, ATI, CIW, Gamma, View Sonic, and Logitech,' Ahmed added.

All sponsors are seriously involved in the event by supplying their technology and abilities to perform the first preliminary in a way that suits Egypt and makes it on par with world standards of video gaming.

High quality graphic cards based on ATi Technology will be supplied by Gigabyte, computer monitors supplied by ViewSonic. Local distributors of Gigabyte - Metra and Gamma, and local system integrators will join hands to make the preliminary contest a success. Metra PC will supply the machines and devices on which gamers will compete to qualify for WCG Finals held in Italy, as we aforementioned.

PC Cassette will also sponsor this Competition by introducing tape players on computers, which can play tapes on computer easily, without any external joint or cassette recorder, listen to pure sound with the full control in volume level through the headphone, and doesn't use the PC's memory (RAM), and doesn't affect the PC's speed.

Players will compete in three main games:

• Need For Speed - Most Wanted

• FIFA 2006

• Warcraft: Frozen Throne

The first and second winners in each of the above games will be qualified to the grand finals of WCG in Italy.
