Multi-Links is one of the four local phone operators in Nigeria that was awarded unified licenses in May 2006 by the National Communications Commission, Nigeria's telecoms regulator. Operators with unified licenses are able to offer multiple services, including, but not limited to mobile telephony, fixed, wireless services, broadband internet and other value-added services. Multi-Links chose Huawei to deploy its industry-leading BTS and core network softswitch and install a CDMA2000 1X network in Lagos, Abuja, PHC, Kano, Ibadan, and Kaduna.

"Only the best partners from across the world were solicited for this project," commented A.V. Rao, CTO of Multi-Links. "We are confident that Huawei can meet our requirements and help us deploy secure, reliable networking and improve our competitive position in the market."

Huawei's industry-leading BTS features an open framework, broadband platform and professional radio-frequency technologies that are widely recognized by CDMA operators worldwide. It is the first wireless communications solutions provider to integrate softswitch technology into a core CDMA network, by basing its CDMA softswitch solution on the distributed technology of traffic control and bearer to enable large capacity and high integration.

Huawei's IP transmission solution enables operators to reduce transmission costs significantly. The network also can be smoothly evolved to meet future requirements.

Tao Jingwen, president of Huawei's Sub-Saharan Africa region, said: "Huawei's leading technologies and professional experience will help our customers enjoy high-quality network coverage and more diversified services. We look forward to a closer long-term partnership with Multi-Links."

"To date, Huawei has been serving over 40 million subscribers globally," said Wang Jiading, vice present, Huawei Technologies Middle East and North Africa Operations. "In November 2005, Frost & Sullivan ranked Huawei "Top Three" in the global CDMA2000 1X/1x EV-DO market. As part of Huawei's vision to enrich people's lives through communication, we are committed to bringing excellent services and innovative technologies to our consumers."
