Summer programmes for school children at Hatta Heritage Village
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, August 30 - 2006 at 14:04
- PRESS RELEASE
The Hatta Heritage Village, operated by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), hosted a variety of recreational and cultural programmes for the school children during the summer holidays.
The summer activities were designed to keep the school students, both UAE nationals and expatriates, busy during their vacation by engaging them in meaningful activities. The programmes that were conducted during the month included traditional games in addition to the Al Youla, swimming and archery training sessions.
Educational tours were organised in Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah during which the students visited museums, heritage sites and other attractions.
An honouring ceremony was also organised for the tourism companies which were promoting the picturesque Hatta nestled in the mountainous range bordering Sultanate of Oman.
Operated by the DTCM since February 2001 after a decade-long renovation, the Hatta Heritage Village has recreated the atmosphere and charm of a bygone era in an ancient Arabian settlement.
Located about 115 kilometres from Dubai, Hatta Heritage Village is the first project of its kind in the Arabian Gulf region wherein an entire ancient village has been converted into a museum.
The Hatta Heritage Village is a beautiful oasis surrounded by mountains, farms and date palm trees. Its history dates back to more than thousands of years as excavations in the area have revealed tombs dating back to 3000 BC. The village complex consists among other things a fort, Bait Al Wali (Governor's House), two towers, mosque and aflaj (small waterways for agricultural purposes).
