- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), the global aerospace, manufacturing and services corporation, has appointed Rashid Al Malik as Deputy CEO and Chief Corporate Development Officer.
Speaking on Al Malik's appointment, HH Sheikh Ahmed said: "It gives me great pleasure to appoint Rashid to such a senior position within this go-ahead organisation. His drive and determination are assets to our country and will be a considerable driving force in shaping the future of DAE. Rashid is an inspiration to young Arab leaders and will continue to be a prominent figure of his generation."
Al Malik, who was previously DAE's project director, takes up his new position with immediate effect and will be an important talent in developing DAE on a global scale. His core responsibilities include the initiation and oversight of mergers and acquisitions, and identifying partnership opportunities and special development projects for the company.
Dr Mohammed Al Zarouni, Managing Director of DAE, and Director General of Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA), commented: "Rashid is a true leader amongst his generation. His industry-specific knowledge will prove crucial to the continuing development of DAE and Dubai."
A pilot by training, Al Malik completed the International Pilot Training Centre programme at Western Michigan University, where he was honoured by the UAE Embassy in Washington DC for his high level of academic achievement. His outstanding scholastic performance earned him the titles of 'Best Pilot in Academic Study 2000', 'Best Pilot in Flying' and 'Best Pilot in Overall' and 'Leadership'. Al Malik honed his skills with Emirates Airline as First Officer on a range of wide-body aircraft.
Bob Johnson, CEO, DAE, added: "Rashid has consistently proven himself at the highest level, and his appointment as the Deputy CEO was the next logical step. An effective team player, he has been instrumental in driving forward the subsequent launch of DAE and will play a pivotal role in shaping its emergence within the global aerospace industry."
Responding to his appointment, Al Malik said he intends to use his experience and extensive knowledge of the global aerospace and aviation industries to develop the concept of a Dubai-based aerospace business.
DAE is part of a larger vision to transform Dubai into a global centre for aviation technology, education, research, manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul, as well as aircraft leasing and finance activities.
Six entities, Emaar Properties, Istithmar, Amlak Finance, Dubai International Capital, Dubai International Financial Centre and DAFZA are the strategic partners of DAE, providing it with a strong and credible foundation for growth.

A pilot by training, Rashid Al Malik was instrumental in the foundation of DAE and is firmly at the controls as a member of the company's senior management team.
Rashid studied English at Cambridge University, in the UK, before pursuing his interest in an aeronautical career.
He graduated from the International Pilot Training Centre programme at Western Michigan University, with an airline transport pilot licence and a distinguished set of top honours. Indeed, he was named 'Best Pilot In Academic Study 2000', 'Best Pilot In Flying' and 'Best Pilot In Overall' and 'Leadership'. Furthermore, Rashid was honoured by the UAE embassy in Washington DC for his high level of performance in academic studies in the USA.
Rashid put those skills into practice for the Dubai-based Emirates, one of the world's fastest growing airlines, initially as a First Officer on the twin-engine Airbus A300 and A310 aircraft. He later converted to fly the Airbus A330 and subsequently the four-engine A340-300 and A340-500 aircraft.
It was during his time as an Emirates' pilot that Rashid began to study the global aviation and aerospace industries, assessing the many innovations and increasing opportunities in developing markets across the globe. From this research Rashid created and evolved the concept of a Dubai-based aerospace business, presenting his concept to senior business executives and key Government officials in Dubai.
The proposal immediately gained momentum, with Rashid leading a project team in 2005 to align many of Dubai's top businesses into their eventual position as founders and shareholders of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE).
