Medics from DoHMS's Blood Donation Centre at Al Wasl Hospital set up a six-bed camp in the lobby of Jafza's Office Building # 15 to collect blood from dozens of volunteers.
Jafza officials said the donors included Jafza's staff as well as employees from different companies located in the Free Zone and some visitors.
Hala Lootah, Jafza's PR and Corporate Communications Manager described the blood donation campaign as another example of the organization's commitment to support community service and socially responsible activities.
'We whole-heartedly welcome this initiative by the Department of Health and Medical Services. They are always welcome here at Jafza to carry on their humanitarian mission,' she added.
Dr Leila Mohammed Al Shaer, Head of the Blood Donation Centre, said, 'The Jafza camp was part of a year-round collection drive to meet the rising demand for blood from hospitals in Dubai.'
The Centre needs 24,000 to 25,000 units of blood every year to supply to all the DoHMS hospitals, as well as private hospitals. Blood quantity is measured in units of 450 ml per bag.
Dr Al Shaer said, 'About 60 percent of our Centre's supplies go to the Thalassaemia Centre at Al Wasl Hospital, because Thalassaemia patients require regular transfusions. They are totally dependant on us.'
Accident victims and other emergency cases at various hospitals are the other beneficiaries of the Centre's supplies.
