The UK magic circle firm came top of a strong shortlist of firms including rivals Clifford Chance, Linklaters and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

In a spectacular night at the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, Allen & Overy made the shortlist for the Team of the Year awards in every category, winning nominations for its work in equity and debt capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and project finance. Roles on stand-out instructions such as Kingdom Hotel Investments' initial public offering and the Shuaibah power project ensured A&O won nominations for seven short-listed deals of the year alongside its four team nominations.

The Middle East team at Allen & Overy also went home with the United Arab Emirates law firm of the year award for its advice on the first rated corporate sukuk in the Middle East and the UAE's biggest power and water project.
