Morocco's Maroc Telecom has selected Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, as the exclusive supplier for the second phase of its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) project to expand the existing capacity of its IPTV infrastructure to cater to strong market demand.
"We will construct a highly reliable H.264-based, expandable IPTV commercial office for Maroc Telecom which will be one of the largest of its type in the world," said Zhang Guoxin, director of Huawei's digital media entertainment product line. "The end-to-end solution will further strengthen the competitiveness of the company in the broadband area."
According to the phase two contract, Huawei will add video value added service for Maroc Telecom, and provide uniform management and backup of the network-wide equipment; effective, and reliable content protection mechanism; and the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) interface customisation to reflect the local Moroccon characteristics. User channels will be expanded from the 50 channels implemented in phase I to 100 channels in phase II, and coverage extended from Rabat and Casablanca to the entire country.
Since 1999, Huawei has been working on the research and development of media streaming technologies. Huawei boasts patented key IPTV technologies like balanced bearing, low bandwidth consumption, and convergence frameworks. The company guarantees low operational expenditure for operators worldwide by providing open and standard middleware systems, and with the support of Cascade, or software for server-based middleware, more part suppliers can create IPTV solutions.
"Huawei's end-to-end IPTV solutions have been deployed by over 40 telecom operators globally, including six commercial deployments, serving over 300,000 subscribers," said Wang Jiading, vice president, Huawei Technologies Middle East and North Africa Operations. "Maroc Telecom is one of the largest H.264-based IPTV commercial deployments in the world and, the second phase of this project, secures Huawei's position as a leading edge IPTV provider."
