It forms part of Samsung's "Ultra Edition" range, and the SGH-D900 also has the name Ultra Edition 12.9, the 12.9 referring to the thickness of the handset in millimeters. The 13mm slide-up is the thinnest slider ever designed with only 85 grams in weight.
It comes with a new and expanded interface system offering users the ultimate in convenience. Ranging from uGo to uTrack, uMenu and uSearch, these new interfaces offer a user-friendly navigation experience.
"The D900 is the latest evolution of Samsung - we anticipate that this model will become the must-have accessory that merges fashion and latest technology with communication," said Steve Han, Senior Sales & Marketing Manager Samsung Gulf Electronics.
uGo
Jointly developed by Samsung and Adobe, uGo is an adaptive user interface that automatically responds to the user's environments. The main screen will display a landmark picture of the city the user is located in, even adjusting the picture to the time of day or night, with added fun graphics and animation alerting the user of missed phone calls and other information.
The network strengths is reflected in the screen display picture: if the network is strong the sky gets brighter and if it is weak the sky gets darker. For the ME region, the landmarks included are: Burj al Arab in the UAE, the Pyramids in Egypt & Al Haram mosque in KSA.
uTrack
This function significantly increases the owners chances of recovering a lost or stolen phone by sending an SMS message to a pre-designated number to alert you of when the owners mobile's SIM card is changed. This helpful feature enables the owner to keep track of your mobile, even when it is no longer in its possession.
uMenu
Users can create a personalized menu of shortcuts to frequently-used features for ultra convenience. Users can directly access their favorite functions without having to navigate through numerous menu screens. Time saving and convenient, uMenu puts the user in control of its mobile.
uSearch
The D900 is as well equipped with a powerful 3.13 megapixel camera, starting the 3 megapixel camera phone trend for the Middle Eastern mobile market this year. Outfitted with auto focus, flash, 4x digital zoom, and a mirror for self-portraits, it is the perfect phone for business and fun.
In addition to the 3.13 megapixel camera, the Samsung D900 has a 2.1" 240x320 pixel TFT display, 60Mb of internal memory with microSD expansion, stereo Bluetooth, quad-band GSM with GPRS and EDGE. The fact that Samsung have managed to squeeze all of that into such a slim handset is an impressive feat.
The D900 also includes business features such as document viewer, TV-output function, and also supports Bluetooth stereo headset (A2DP) function to enhance users' multimedia experience.
There's also a multimedia player capable of playing back MP3 and AAC audio formats, a digital power amp and document viewer, and presumably the Samsung D900 has all the usual things that users would expect from this type of handset.
The D900 also boasts large, vivid 262K color screens, ideal for watching streaming videos or viewing the phone's photo book. Also, the external microSD slot allows for additional storage.
