The Organizing Committee for the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup 2007 meet to discuss preparations for the event

The Higher Organizing Committee for the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup held a meeting on Tuesday September 5 at the UAE Football Association Building in Dubai.

His Excellency Abdulrahman Bin Mohammed Alouais, Vice President of the Higher Organizing Committee of the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup Abu Dhabi 2007 and Minister of Culture, Youth and Community, led the discussion on the final arrangements for the draw event, the opening ceremony, the unveiling of the website, as well as the organization of the basketball, volleyball, and handball games for tournament.

DONE Events organized the draw event which will be held at Al Jazeera Club at 5pm on September 18, 2006. Media representatives from the countries participating in the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup have been invited to attend the draw event. The Millenium Hotel was selected to host the visiting regional media and the draw officials during their stay. For the draw event, ex-players from previous championships have been invited to attend the event to represent their countries in the region. Several companies presented proposals for the opening ceremony, but the Higher Organizing Committee will make their decision in two weeks at another scheduled meeting of the committee.

Several meetings are taking place to finalize every aspect of the tournament over the next few weeks. Starting on the 15th of September, the official referees for the tournament and representatives from FIFA, AFC, and the Arab Football Association will meet. The Football Federations from the participating countries will meet with the Organizing Committee to review the plans for the evening of the draw event. The Higher Organizing Committee also said that several press conferences are planned for the next few weeks. Viola will organize a press conference on the 17th September at the Millennium Hotel to unveil the official website for the tournament followed by a press conference on the 18th September to discuss the technical aspects of the tournament.

Ibrahim Abdul Malik, Head of the Committee for the Group Sports, led the discussion on the details for the basketball, volleyball, and handball games. He informed the committee that each federation will be responsible for organizing their sport competition. The volley games will take place in Abu Dhabi with the participation of five national teams, the basketball games in Dubai with five national teams, and the handball games in Al Ain with six participating national teams. This year Saudi Arabia agreed to participate in the handball competitions but not in the basketball and volleyball.
