Etisalat CEO gives GSM-3G Middle East & Gulf keynote address

Emirates Telecommunications Corporation- Etisalat- is one of the key participants at the GSM-3G Middle East and Gulf conference and exhibition.

Etisalat CEO, Mr. Mohamed Khalfan Al Qamzi, presented the keynote address on the first day of the event, which is being held at the Dubai International Convention Centre on 11th and 12th September 2006.

Mohamed Al Qamzi said: "Etisalat is moving ahead with its blueprint for developing the mobile telecommunications sector in the UAE and to this end, implements and introduces advanced technologies and services. This allows both business and individual users to reap the benefits of this international phenomenon."

"In terms of solutions such as Multimedia Services and Broadband Internet Access over the Mobile, new opportunities continue to arise. Etisalat's shift to the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) platform has enabled the launch of a range of exciting new services in the UAE, empowering users with increased bandwidth and higher speeds. Today, Etisalat offers nationwide coverage for anyone seeking to connect to the Internet via mobile, ensuring that a customer on the move is never without access and connectivity to their preferred application and content",


he added.

Al Qamzi said: "We are looking at a promising future, which will bring many opportunities and challenges. Etisalat was the pioneer in launching 3G services in the region and is therefore committed to improving and developing this technology to its maximum potential. These developments will further drive penetration at a time when the Middle East is already counted among those regions of the world with the highest mobile penetration rates."

"Etisalat's pledge is that while our customers will continue to benefit from innovations in the global telecommunications sector, they will also enjoy a level of personal service unique to the UAE and this region."

"While it took 12 years for the world to reach 1 billion mobile phone customers, it took only two and a half years from then to cross the two billion mark. Today, nearly 30 per cent of the global population uses GSM, and this relatively young technology has profoundly changed the way we live and work", he said.

Etisalat has achieved record mobile penetrations figures of over 125 per cent, with the number of subscribers exceeding 5.1 million.
