The World Retail Congress will be held in Barcelona in March 2007 and will see retailers from across the world meet and discuss all the key issues facing retail businesses. Mohamed Alshaya, CEO of the AlShaya Group, is one of the leading retail figures pledging support for the World Retail Congress and he is a member of the Congress Advisory Board. He is also confirmed as one of the keynote speakers at the Congress along with top retailers such as Sir Terry Leahy, CEO, Tesco, Anders Dahlvig, President & CEO, Ikea Group, Motoya Okada, President, AEON and José Luis Duran, CEO, Carrefour.

Ian McGarrigle, Congress Director overseeing Content, and Ray Suitters, the Commercial Director, visited retailers and mall developers in Dubai last week.

'We see the scale and pace of development of retailing in Dubai and across the Gulf as one of the most exciting the world has ever seen' said Ian McGarrigle. 'This will be reflected at the World Retail Congress with special sessions dedicated to examining the opportunities for retail in the Gulf. We therefore wanted to meet with leading retailers and developers in the region to win their support for the World Retail Congress and invite them to take part. The reaction we received was extremely positive and encouraging'.

The directors visited Majid Al Futtain Group, Chalhoub Group, Damas, Paris Gallery and Istithmar Retail.

Francois de Montaudoin, CEO of Majid Al Futtain Group, Tawhid Abdullah, President of Damas, David Thurling, CEO of Istithmar Retail and Abdullah Al Fahim, Chairman of Paris Gallery have all confirmed that they will speak at the World Retail Congress.

It was also confirmed this week that Dubai-based Concept Media will represent the World Retail Congress as sales agents and Retail ME has become the media partner with the World Retail Congress across the Middle East.
